LETTER OF APPRECIATION

From Lady Corder Chapman

I commend you and your staff for a well put-together Gala on last evening – Wednesday – April 3, 2024.

The food was delicious and well-prepared, the music was delightful, the program was varied enough to keep everyone’s interest, everyone was dressed so beautifully and appropriately, the meeting of each of the honorees in the International Room was a great idea, the attendants (persons being helpful), was outstanding and they were very courteous helping people find their table, according to the number on the table.

I especially appreciated the time, energy and effort that was obviously put into development of the program – the video presentations – the awards with the appropriate name fixed there to – the photographers who seemingly got everything that was going on and of course, Mr. Lorenzo Washington, wearing his top hat was simply a pure delight.

Me and my brother talked about the entire affair and we both agreed that you and your staff and Mr. Lorenzo Washington were very down to earth – really interested in each of your guests as you walked around talking, taking pictures and just communicating with everyone your pleasure in all of us being present.

Also, we were thankful that the organization was giving accolades, thanks and appreciation to some of us in the community who have never been remembered in such a way…certainly it did my heart good to know that my efforts in the community over the last 35 years….were noticed, appreciated and I was given the JEFFERSON STREET STAR AWARD… Thanks.

Thanks for the honor you bestowed on me and the other recipients that were remembered.

I need to definitely become more involved with the Museum; I plan on touring it very soon to become more aware of the historical values I will find there, which will enable me to appreciate even more.

I pray God will continue blessing you and your efforts as you move on with this very worthwhile endeavor of showing appreciation to some of us who have never had this type of honor bestowed on us.

God bless,

Lady Corder Chapman

EXIT 207 The Soul Of Nashville premiere was a beautiful documentary written, produced and directed by very talented Belmont University students guided by their professor Jennifer Duck. The documentary reflected on the North Nashville Historic Jefferson Street Community and heritage. The documentary allowed us to reflect on owning our history, self reliance, financial prosperity, educational enlightenment, a cultural oasis, spiritual awareness, vibrant footprints, a musically talented and influential community. Hats Off to Lorenzo Washington, Dr. Learotha Williams, Carlos Partee, Charlane Oliver, LaDonna Boyd, and Rev. Bernard Lafayette.

Jefferson Street Sound Museum Lorenzo Washington Day Gala

Lorenzo is the Founder & Curator of Jefferson Street Sound Museum (JSSM). His passion for family and community are the catalyst for his life journey, which encompasses an array of entrepreneurial ventures.

In the early 1970s, Washington embraced his passion for music by founding Soul Shack Records and Boutique. In 1976, he partnered with Moses Dillard and Jesse Boyce from Dillard & Boyce Productions, which was originally located on Nashville’s Music Row. The trio released a single entitled “Come on Dance” by the Saturday Night Band that reached #2 on the charts.

Washington turned his passion of preserving “back in the day” music into the Jefferson Street Sound Museum. The JSS museum is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that bridges historical preservation, and an impact on today’s music and entertainment with a full-service recording studio.
